What Must Appear on Your Label
Every product sold under California's cottage food law must include all of the following on its label:
- 1 Cottage food operation name and address
- 2 Registration or permit number
- 3 Product name
- 4 Date product was made
- 5 Ingredients in descending order
- 6 Net weight or net volume
- 7 Allergen statement
- 8 Cottage food statement
Required Cottage Food Statement
California requires the following statement to appear verbatim on every label. Copy this exactly — no paraphrasing.
"Made in a home kitchen. Not inspected by state or local health department."
Nutrition Facts Panel
Cottage food producers are explicitly exempt from FDA mandatory nutrition labeling. You may add one voluntarily, but California does not require it. Save that time for baking.
