All platforms pass standard credit card processing (Stripe or equivalent) to the vendor — this is the industry norm and not a platform distinction. HotPlate’s distinction: no monthly fee, but customers pay a ~5% + $0.55 platform surcharge on every order. BAS’s free Starter plan (4% vendor commission) costs less than HotPlate’s surcharge on every order, whatever its size. As sales grow, BAS’s Maker and Bloom plans — flat monthly, zero commission — beat per-order pricing at any volume. Bakesy Secure Payments charges 3.9% + $0.30; vendors can also collect cash or other payments directly at no fee. Competitor data current as of June 2026.

How much does it cost?
Opening a shop and listing products is free. On Starter, we take 4% of a sale only when you make one. Maker ($100 a year, or $15 month to month) and Bloom ($200 a year, or $25 month to month) have no commission. Selling more than about $210 a month? Maker on the yearly plan costs less than the commission would.
When do I get paid?
Every sale goes straight to your own Stripe account. Stripe pays out to your bank on your schedule, often the next business day.
Do I need a Stripe account?
Yes. It's free and takes about five minutes, and Bea walks you through it during setup.
What about cottage food laws in my state?
Rules vary by state. Our state-by-state guides spell them out, the Label Maker adds your state's required statement, and the sales-cap tracker watches your yearly limit.
Do I have to ship?
Nope. Most vendors offer pickup at home, at a market or by porch drop-off. Shipping is there when your state and your product allow it.
Is this for hobbyists or real businesses?
Both. Two loaves a week or sixty jars on a Saturday, it's the same tools. You upgrade only once it pays for itself.

Can I cancel anytime?
