Market Prep Planner: How Much Should I Bring?

Tell us about the market and what you sell, and we'll estimate how many shoppers will buy from you, how much of each product to bring, and what you'll keep after the booth fee. It's the same planning our Bloom vendors use, minus their own sales history.

Step 1

Your market

Weather
Ask the market manager how many people come through on a typical day. No number? Pick the size by how many vendors set up.
Step 2

What you sell

Stalls selling the same, counting you
The more stalls selling what you sell, the more the crowd is shared. Count them on your first visit; it is the number that moves this plan the most.
Step 3

Your products

Up to six
$
What happens to leftovers changes how many to bring. Bread you have to toss? Bring close to what you expect to sell. A jam that keeps? Bring more, because nothing is lost.

Market day tips

Arrive early and set up smart — Best sellers at eye level, and something tall so the table reads from ten feet away.

Offer samples — Quarter-size pieces cost little and turn browsers into buyers. Keep hand sanitizer in sight.

Take cards — Plenty of shoppers carry no cash. A card reader or a QR code is the easiest sale you will make all day.

Bring change for $20s — Start with $50 to $75 in small bills and coins. "Sorry, no change" loses the sale.

Write down what happened — What you brought, what sold and when you sold out. Next time, your own numbers beat any estimate.

Questions

Market day questions, answered.

How do I estimate foot traffic at a farmers market?

Ask the market manager for their average attendance, or count passers-by for ten minutes at a similar market and scale it to the full day. Use a lower number for your first few markets; the safety buffer covers the rest.

Why does the number of stalls selling the same matter so much?

Shoppers only buy so much bread (or honey, or soap) in one trip. If three bakers are at the market, the bread buyers are shared three ways. Count the stalls selling what you sell on your first visit; it changes the plan more than anything else.

Why does it tell me to bring less than I expect to sell?

When a leftover costs you more than a missed sale does (a loaf you'll throw out, on a thin margin), bringing slightly under is the money-smart choice. When leftovers keep, or your margin is big, it suggests a little extra instead. Change what happens to leftovers and watch the numbers move.

Is the Market Prep Planner free?

Yes, with no sign-up. On Bloom it learns from your own sales at each market, counts your pre-orders, saves your markets and products, and gives you a market-day page that works offline.
