Filipino traditional cakes
A popular Filipino treats (traditional bite-sized steamed cake) that combines sweet purple yam flavor…
A Taste That Sparked a Passion (2015) The story of RG’s Cheesecake began in 2015 following a life-changing slice at The Cheesecake Factory in Saudi Arabia. That single slice sparked a journey to explore their Dubai branch, where inspiration truly took root.
Captivated by the craft, I began experimenting with my own unique flavors. What started as a passion project quickly blossomed into a beloved small business, warmly embraced by friends and coworkers alike.
Bringing the Sweetness Home
When our youngest daughter turned five, I returned home to the Philippines to focus on taking care of our children while continuing my work and my passion for baking. To adapt to local ingredients and costs, I expanded the menu beyond cheesecakes to include cherished traditional Filipino treats—like creamy caramel leche flan, rich ube, light sponge cakes, and bite-sized puto. To reflect this evolution, RG’s Cheesecake officially became RG’s Cheesecake & Desserts, with our treats quickly becoming holiday favorites in high demand.
A New Chapter in the USA (2021)
In 2021, my journey brought me to the United States. Amid the adjustments of settling into a new country and managing a demanding workload, baking became my ultimate therapeutic escape on my days off. I began sharing cakes at potlucks and gifting them to friends. Before long, the local Filipino community fell in love with the flavors and started asking the phrase every baker dreams of hearing: "How much do you sell these for?"
Perfecting the Craft (Spring 2026)
In April 2026, I baked an ube cake for a special community member's birthday, and the response was overwhelming. Requests started rolling in—including one from a friend who admitted she usually only eats ube cake for her birthday. Inspired, I spent the following weeks studying techniques, watching tutorials, and practicing tirelessly to perfect my sponge cakes and frostings. Through trial and error, determination, and feedback from friends, I mastered the process.
Turning Obstacles into Opportunity (Fall 2026)
Navigating a new country also meant learning new rules. In August 2026, I began researching Kentucky's laws on selling baked goods and discovered the
Home-Based Processor program. Finding out that cheesecakes could not be sold under a home-based license was a temporary heartbreak—but our handcrafted ube cakes and gourmet ensaymadas became our new foundation of hope.
I officially applied for my Home-Based Processor license in September, and on October 1, 2026, I received official authorization from the Kentucky Department for Public Health. To mark this exciting milestone, we officially updated our name from RG’s Cheesecake & Desserts to RG’s Cheesecake & Desserts in Kentucky.
Today, RG’s Cheesecake & Desserts in Kentucky stands as a testament to resilience, family, and a lifelong love for bringing people together through unforgettable treats.
