Cottage Food Law Labeling Requirements

Cottage Food Labeling Requirements in Iowa

Cottage food labeling requirements in Iowa — everything that must appear on your label, required cottage food statements, allergen disclosures, font size rules, and privacy options for your home address.

What Must Appear on Your Label

Every product sold under Iowa's cottage food law must include all of the following on its label:

  1. 1 Product name
  2. 2 Producer name and address
  3. 3 Ingredients in descending order by weight
  4. 4 Net weight or net volume
  5. 5 Allergen statement
  6. 6 Cottage food statement

Required Cottage Food Statement

Iowa requires the following statement to appear verbatim on every label. Copy this exactly — no paraphrasing.

Required Statement
"Produced in a home kitchen not inspected by the Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals, and Licensing."

Additional Requirements

🧊
Safe Handling Statement
"Keep Refrigerated. Use within 7 days of opening."

Nutrition Facts Panel

You do not need a Nutrition Facts panel.
Cottage food producers are explicitly exempt from FDA mandatory nutrition labeling. You may add one voluntarily, but Iowa does not require it. Save that time for baking.
