What Must Appear on Your Label

Every product sold under West Virginia's cottage food law must include all of the following on its label:

  2. 2 Producer name and address
  3. 3 Ingredients in descending order by weight
  4. 4 Net weight or net volume
  5. 5 Allergen statement
  6. 6 Cottage food statement (bold, all caps, 10-point minimum u2014 replace HOME with FARM, COMMUNITY, or COMMERCIAL if applicable)

West Virginia requires a minimum font size of 10 points on cottage food labels. Make sure your type is legible — your customers are reading it in a farmers market, not a laboratory.

Cottage food producers are explicitly exempt from FDA mandatory nutrition labeling. You may add one voluntarily, but West Virginia does not require it. Save that time for baking.
